Radio Deluxe

Marcia Bell

I can't believe Radio Deluxe didn't have a Group on Facebook...

So I started one. I so enjoyed last Saturday's edition of Radio Delux that I decided I needed to join its group on Facebook and try to encourage all my friends to do so as well. Imagine my surprise when I found that Radio Deluxe, of all outstanding American tributes, was not there. Well I created one and added what information I could hastily gather at the time. Of course, little ol' me can not do justice to this uniquely, entertaining, sophisticated, funny, yet natural endeavor ode to the preservation of America's gift to the world, Jazz music. Please take a look and support the preservation of jazz and Radio Deluxe. Thanks.

Hi Marcia,

The Facebook for Pizzarelli concept was introduced here about six months ago by a gracious young woman and writer from Canada, WpgGirl. There was support for her motion, though some had wondered if the “Dueling Pizzarellis” might encourage this site’s members to hang out at Facebook to the point of diluting the support of NingThing members.

The jury has been out on this Catch-22 thing for some time, and I hadn’t yet made up my mind. But considering the subdued atmosphere of late, the lukewarm interaction level, and the fact that Jessica has posted in favor of both sites, I now believe that there is room for both “Facebook Pizzarelli” and the eclectic membership of “Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli” (NingThing).

Our members could visit Facebook, sign up, and wander into Facebook’s Pizzarelli room, make some friends, and in time suggest they visit our “Radio Deluxe with Pizzarelli” site, the original fan site for the gifted John Pizzarelli (not to mention his incredibly talented wife, Jessica Molaskey).

We could institute “Dual Fansiteship” (dual membership). In time, as the social network of “Radio Deluxe with John Pizzarelli” gains strength and chatter, our membership will grow even faster with more enthusiasm.

And that’s the name of that tune,

Barry Kunz

Dear Barry,

I think that 'Duelings Pizzarellis' could be of benefit to both Face Book and Ning Thing sites. You contacted me via Facebook and now I'm a NT member (or was I already? Anyway, I'm back). You can post this web address on Facebook or even have it automatically fed via RSS there, and all John's thousands of Friends would receive all new information from here, or vice versa. I also agree with your 'piano, piano' - step by step approach to encouraging dual membership. Jazz lovers usually like to play it cool and keep things low to medium tech. However, one thing about 2009 for certain is that 'change is good'. Well, I look forward to any news and updates regarding Radio Delux, and John's and Jessica's music. Take good care.

So glad that jazz is still alive, red hot and cool,
Marcia Bell

I saw the group on Facebook and I jumped in. These things can take some time to grab hold. I agree with Barry, below, that it is a good idea to post a comment, periodically, on your Facebook page about Radio Deluxe. just to spread the word. Doesn't hurt to have everyone here who is on FB to join the "fans of,' either. That just ups the exposure.

One thing, though, I am also in Wynton Marsalis' fan group on FB and he is posting ALL THE TIME. He hits it almost every day with a "going to the White House," or "heading to rehearsals with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra." It gives the "connection' some real validity.

It doesn't seem like it would take too long to post 3-4 sentences. Just a thought.
