Hey Barry,
Just dropped by to see what condition my condition was .... woah .... that's reliving too much history. Anyway .... just noted .... new picture nice chapeau. Your new pic compelled me to put up a new profile photo myself and a couple of Trio photos ... not much different, but a little less serious. I don't make it by the RD site as much anymore but still enjoy some interaction with some pretty classy folks. Hope you and yours are doing well.

Barry,
Just adding some new tunes to the repertoire I rediscovered a great old tune penned by Ted Adair and Matt Dennis called "Let's Get Away From It All" and immediately thought of your new "Fabulous Places" project. I remember Rebecca Kilgore and Eddie Erickson doing a delightful version of it on a Radio Deluxe Show some time ago. You probably already have the tunes and artists picked for the project but I just thought I'd throw an idea your way that may fit it or perhaps a subsequent First Cabin production.
Best

Barry,

Thanks for the informative reply! Always enjoy reading the behind the scenes information you provide!

I did read the article in IQ on page 6, featuring your CD " The Bed and Breakfast Music Blend." I found it at this link:

What a great experience and story!

I appreciate your sharing it!

Great to hear Anna Beckley will be on your next project. I look forward to that.

Have you ever heard Maud Hixson? Really love her singing. Website: www.maudhixson.com LINK: http://www.babybluearts.com/MaudHixson.htm

All the Best,

Barry,

Really enjoy Anna Beckley's vocal artistry.

Are you working with her or planning anything?

Don't know if you remember me. We had a conversation sometime ago regarding Jo Satfford and a Radio Deluxe show as a tribute.

Hello. We haven't traded words in some time. My apologies. Sitting here after a delightful day, BBQ, friends, great music, a little Oregon wine, ballgame (we won!)and fireworks, celebrating this great Nation and recalled that wonderful post of Ray Charles America the Beautiful that you put up last year on this Ning Thing - Radio Deluxe. Decided to see if it was still here. Am sitting listening to it again and wanting to thank you again for that offering. Hope your day, and year, has gone well.

Hi Barry
Just a little response to your new clothes change. Mr. Clayton Moore, that would be The Lone Ranger, WOW. And your Cathedral Phantoms, perhaps "only the Phantom knows". It brings to memory things I shouldn't be old enough to remember. To quote Mr. Hope, "Thanks For The Memories"
Have a grand day

Hi Barry
Great comparison of Ms. Brice's and Ms. Muldaur's performances on this great tune, which I had not heard before. Separated by more than 70 years yet the message from these two delightful pieces of Americana helps remind us of what are really the most important things in life. This really reinforces the current discussion on the RD site regarding a show dedicated to "double plays. Thanks very much.

Hi Barry
Hope you're doing well. Just logged in and noticed your new profile picture....brought to mind a line from an Irving Berlin tune "Steppin' Out With My Baby" from the movie Easter Parade ..... "Never felt quite this sunny". Your photo sure exudes that sensibility. You can find a video of Mr. Astaire's performance from the movie at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkkxb3xsqmY ..... it is just exquisitely classy. Haven't yet figured out how to post these videos on the RD site but thought you might enjoy it.

Regarding the addition of the Sarah Vaughn tune and your other recent additions. Keep these tunes coming. Excellent choices all. It is it a delight to visit the Radio Deluxe site and even more fun to find such enjoyable additions added to the pot. It's inspiring me to add a few additional tune to my playlist by other artists (Mark Kershner come to mind). Much thanks.

Barry,
Thank you for posting "A Home Away From Home". It's a performance of Mark's that I had not heard before. It certainly reflects the character of "A Cozy Bed and Breakfast". A delightful tune, I would be interested in knowing what First Cabin production it comes from.

Barry,

Thanks for the compliment... I have been ride'n high in the saddle all weekend!

Funny you mentioned richjenkins.com, I just acquired the domain two weeks ago. Now all I have to do is update the content once I scratch up a little more coin. I am working on a short promo video and that has been devouring all of my marketing budget.

I read the message you left for Doc, you hit the nail on the head, this network is quickly becoming a wonderful place to visit. Talk with you soon!

Again, thank you for the kind words, R-

Thanks for passing the info about SWJF 2008 on. Sorry you can't make it. I will be contacting Mark (Kershner) also regarding the Fest. I had the opportunity to work with Mark last month (indeed a gifted voice+) and we are playing with the idea of the Trio, Kilde, Fleetwood & La Freniere, and Mr. Kershner doing some venues and perhaps recording together. I should tell you that Mark gives our violinist, Mr. Ron Kilde, credit with giving him his start as Mark, in his mid teens, would sit in with Mr. Kilde's ensemble and got his first taste of performing live a that time. It's been said "it's a small world". I guess all I can say is first cabin all the way. Mark's "This is the Life" is spinning in my laptop now. An additional note, my wife and I had a wonderful afternoon shooting up to Portland after church and catching Rebecca Kilgore and Lyle Ritz, the father of jazz ukulele in performance. Wonderful!!! If you could catch Ms. Kilgore on a future production .... what a voice .,.. and her delivery is without equal.

Wanted to make you aware of a delightful Jazz Fest coming up on May 10th here in Oregon. The 2nd annual Silverton Wine & Jazz Festival, http://www.silvertonwineandjazz.com, is scheduled for May 10th in historic downtown Silverton, Oregon, located in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountains about 40 miles south of Portland, from Noon to 9:00 p.m. The Festival will have 20 live jazz acts, one of the headliners being a delightful singer, Retta Christie and her Trio, featuring one of John and Jessica's favorite's Mr. Dave Frishberg, (and including the Trio, Kilde, Fleetwood & La Freniere, that I perform with,...gosh I hope that's not too self serving) performing in 14 intimate venues while 11 local wineries (I'm sure you've heard of the amazing wines produces here) offer tastings and wines by the glass and a variety of tapas-style food accompaniments. The Festival follows what they are calling a "wine walk" format - with venues spread throughout the downtown Silverton area. I thought with your jazz/entertainment connections you probably know far more people, even in my region here in Oregon than I, who might enjoy at "first cabin" afternoon of wine, jazz and beautiful scenery. I can even suggest a "cozy bed & breakfast", http://www.brittonridge.com , just minutes from downtown Silverton. Tell Darrell I sent you.
Certainly all the best

Thank you for your kind response. This is certainly a delightful and edifying network the Mr. Pizzarelli and Jessica have launched. Thank you for the kind words regarding our music . . . my colleagues are, indeed, extraordinary, with exceptional musical pedigrees, and I find it a privilege to play, and to try to keep up, with them. I look forward to hearing more from First Cabin, "Room With A View" is spinning in my laptop now... certainly First Cabin All The Way!

Love "Burnt Toast!" Where did you ever find that record player gizmo?? As usual, John has found another way to bring the music to the people! He and his father are a big inspiration to me.

Hello, Barry!
It's Rose Walker from Denver here. I was wondering if you had a chance to see the video I posted recently. It's the City Medley by Andy Wms & Tony Bennett from back in the day when they were whippersnappers. Let me know what you think!

I'm brand new to the Radio Deluxe site and am enjoying knowing that there others out there with similar musical tastes. On perusing the members noted that you were First Cabin Records. I had the opportunity to work with Mark Kershner here in Oregon a couple of weeks ago, great voice. Love "A Cosy Bed and Breakfast". Keep this stuff coming.
